Siege Breakers Sessions #3: How PC Gaming got its Groove Back

OG HQ Command Center

This week on Siege Breakers Sessions we began with PC building season as Deep Poke and new to the show, Rizim are both in the middle of building new gaming systems. It seems as if this has kept both of them from purchasing Holiday gifts, but it did take us into our first discussion about the resurgence of PC gaming and how PC gaming companies in the U.S. and the U.K. are seeing more people purchase high end gaming systems.

This lead us into talk about the PC gaming market and if perhaps MOBA’s and games like World of Warships helped to boost PC sales. A lot of us played World of Tanks and now World of Warships especially Rizim so it was good to have him on to talk about what’s been going on in the game.

Speaking of MOBA’s we discussed an article saying there really is no such thing as MMR hell where the ranking system in games such as DOTA 2, League of Legends and Heroes of Storm causes good players to end up stuck with bad players. The point of the article was that communications is the key because the win/loss record balances out anyway.

Towards the end it got kind of crazy. We were headed towards a discussion about games you play in the bathroom like Nintendo 3DS games or even old Gameboy or mobile games, but it somehow ended up becoming a story about embarrassing bowel movements. We learned J.A. takes his shirt off in the bathroom and Deep Poke goes even further. We had to break that madness by talking about the recently discovered official lyrics for the original Mario Bros game. We played a little of it which was so Japanese, but still great.

Siege Breakers Sessions #2: Black Friday Madness

steam-black-friday

The Siege Breakers Sessions podcast returns post-Thanksgiving with our round up of what the gang did during our holiday including all the Black Friday purchases we made from all the choices from Steam to Greenman Gaming.

We got derailed for a moment as J.A. was asked to talk about some of the horrible tech support experiences he had during his time working in phone support.

From there we moved into more League of Legend talk were the discussion quickly turned to the need or lack of need for a surrender button and that far too many games have been turned around after someone has called for the team to give up.

The EA hate returned in some form as J.A. admitted to purchasing the premium edition of Battlefield 4 during Black Friday while Magnolia has sword off all EA purchases even the next Mass Effect to Mighty D’s surprise.

Guild Wars 2 make a topic appearance due to Mighty D’s mentioning missing out on the beginning of World of Warcraft.

Finally Magnolia filled us in on the changes we can expect with DirectX 12 and how we will get better performance from out CPU’s which will mean better gameplay and longevity for newer and older systems using the Windows 10 platform.

Siege Breakers Sessions #1: Star Citizen 2.0 & More

star citizen

Many moons ago we decided to create a podcast where everyone who contributed to Obsolete Gamer could come on and talk about what we loved, gaming. We got together at a local radio Miami station and began recording shows. Overtime, we started interviewing guests and then moved to our offices and changed to our Skype and YouTube format, but we always kept a podcast format as well because that’s where we started.

We wanted a podcast only show that was more gaming focused and so Siege Breaker Sessions was created based off of a group of gamers we play a variety of games with. These podcasts will cover mainly PC games, but we may talk some console games as well, however it mainly be about what we have played, what we are playing and what we are looking forward to in the world of video games.

In our very first episode we began talking about the game that all of us have been intrigued with since the beginning, Star Citizen and with 2.0 we were all dying to see what would be coming next. We went over some of the hopes and our concerns we had for the upcoming game.

We then moved on to Fallout 4 which took the attention of much of the Obsolete Gamer staff when it was released, so much so it affected the guest booking of the Obsolete Gamer Show. There was some discussion about how for one person it was not all they expected, but it turned out it was their own fault for the choices they made in the game.

Next, we talked briefly about the final StarCraft 2 campaign and the end of that series before talking a bit about mobile games and the strange celebrities that have showed up in commercials for them. There was a little EA bashing and disappointment over Star Wars Battlefront as well and with good reason as you will hear.

Finally, many of us got wrapped up when Blizzards, Heroes of the Storm was released. We played it a lot, but soon found ourselves returning to Riot games League of Legends, so we did a little comparison and discussed the differences and why we made the switch.

All in all it was a good first podcast and we think you will enjoy it so give it a listen and leave us a comment and let us know what you think.
