What is Game Talk Live

game talk live

Game Talk Live is the ONLY live, one-hour daily video game talk show on the face of the planet — at least as far as our interns could find. We air five days a week, from 5-6 PST, with all of the day’s top video game news, analysis, and jokes…aided by A.I., the artificial intelligence interface we picked up cheap at an NSA yard sale.

The Best of The Obsolete Gamer Show 2013

J.A. and Ignacio

For the Obsolete Gamer Show team being able to chat with people about video games is just about the most fun we can have. We get to be silly, have fun, laugh, a lot, and talk with people from all over the world. These are not just podcasts, they are fond memories and good times and we were proud to have them all and wanted to bring you some of the best moments from OGS 2013.

Originally we wanted to do a standard interview type podcast, but let’s face it, it had been done before. We still had fun, but we felt like we were trying to be too professional, then it got crazy. We ditched that format and just talked about whatever we want and honestly it was some of the funniest stuff we ever did.

However, we also wanted to continue interviewing people, so for 2013 we decided to combine the two. We reached out to people in the gaming industry and invited them on to chat via Skype which we then converted into the podcast. Later on, we added our Google Hang Out Live video show so we could have video as well as audio and it has been a hit.

We began the 2013 season talking with Fatal1ty and it was great talking about being a pro gamer as well as mixing the love of video games with being kick ass at it.  Ryan Culver was one of the most interesting guests we had because not only did he play Nathan Drake in the Sony commercials, this guy lives an awesome life and I swear I have to see one of his airplanes one day.

We always are on the lookout for Retro inspired games and we found a cool indie one and had a great conversation with Mike Oliphant, creator of Kung Fu Fight. We discussed indie developing and the challenges of getting your work out there. We also got to talk with Caleb Fox of Wargaming America about World of Tanks, a game our founder Ignacio is very fond of.

Obviously gaming communities are huge and we have been part of the Raptr network for years now. We are currently working on a project with them that we hope to show you in 2014, but we had a chance to talk with Casey Scheld about how the Raptr community has grown over the years and its goals for the future.

So if you have been following us at all you know we have had a relationship with The Jace Hall show for some time. It began with us wanting him to be one of our first high profile gamer profiles and from there we added an interview and more. When they launched their channel 1337 Lounge Live, they were kind enough to invite J.A. Laraque on and it was an awesome time. Since then J.A. has appeared on their channel and their video game talk show Game Talk Live. One of the first people I met on the lounge was host, Xander Denke, and it was great to have him on the show to talk about the lounge and dealing with guests coming on the show. In the video version, he even shows us a little behind the scenes of the lounge so you will want to check that out if you haven’t already.

Now while Obsolete Gamer is mostly about classic gaming we have often talked about all types of subjects from modern gaming to even gaming health and politics, but sometimes you need to get with a legend and be schooled in the ways of gaming and that is exactly what happened when we talked with gaming legend William Volk. This guy knows his stuff and you have to see the full podcast because there was so much awesomeness in it, it could have been 60% of the best of 2013 by itself. Seriously, it was a great and informative conversation and we were honored to have him on.

The great thing about Gamer Profiles is it gives us that opening to reach out to people in the gaming industry. Sometimes you get a little knowledge about the person and move on and sometimes you create a friendship and have an awesome chat via Google Plus. That is exactly what happened with actor William Watterson who among many other things was the voice of Jim Peyton in Lost Planet 3. When we do a podcast we are not sure how long it will be. Sometimes the guests have time constraints and sometimes they are not as talkative. Sometimes you just click and the conversation flows as if you have known them for years. Honestly, it was great and we talked about everything from gaming to comic books even sports and of course movies and acting. We added the complete 55 minute interview and I know you will enjoy all of it.

Included in this 217 minute podcast is also some of our funnier segments where we talk about everything from hiring in-gamer assassins to gamer girls who are not completely girls as well as an extended intro clip track. Now we know it is a lot to listen to and we can break it up into individual segments later, but it’s a fun listen especially if you have time to kill.

I hope you all enjoyed listening and watching our podcasts as much as we enjoyed doing them and for 2014 it is only going to get better. We have a lot planned with lots of guests, more interaction and additional shows and programs that will cross over with OGS.

We want to thank everyone who came on the show and a special thanks to all the listeners because without you there is no OGS.

As for the podcast itself, head on over to our Podcast Page to choose how you want to listen or download the show.

The Obsolete Gamer Show #35: The Clip Show

Florida Supercon 2013

Well it is a clip show, but not in the sense where we reply old stuff you already heard. We have been a bit busy at OG HQ as of late and with that and Florida Supercon we did not have a change to do our normal podcast. However, we did get a few interviews from the con and have added them to this show. First up the show features a little behind the scenes when we were recording the video for our appearance on 1337 Lounge live. It was fun doing it so we decided to add a little of our prep for it.

Next up part one in our audio version of the Gamer Parent series where we talk with gamers who are now parents. This gives a good insight into being both a gamer and a parent and we hope to add more interviews in the near future. Finally we bring you two interviews from Florida Supercon. The first one is an extended version of our interview with Stealth Mobile Gaming and our interview with Florida Arcade & Pinball Exposition. We will be back very soon with our normal podcast so make sure to check that out.

The Obsolete Gamer Show #31 Rose Colored Glasses

J.A. Laraque

We celebrated our first Google + Live Hangout and episode #31 of the Obsolete Gamer Show. We began with Xander Denke from 1337 Lounge Live which is an awesome video game channel now hosted on Twitch TV and brought to you by Jace Hall of The Jace Hall show. We talk about how the channel game about and the process for all the awesome guests who we get to see in the lounge. If you haven’t checked it out you should. See below for the promo they shot when I was on the show.

Next we talked Xbox One with Grace Snoke who wrote about her views on the recent press release that has caused quite a storm within the gaming community. If you haven’t seen it yet you can check out the highlights in the video below. We covered everything from the rumors surrounding paying a fee for used and borrowed games to the controversy surrounding the always on internet connection requirement. While we answered a lot of questions we also created a lot more and in the end we will have to wait till E3 to answer them.

Finally we talked about looking back on games with rose colored glasses. At some time we all looked back on something we did and thought it was awesome only to go back and realize it wasn’t as good as we thought. This happens in gaming as well. We each talked about a game that we had such found memories of, but just did not live up to the hype we gave it.

We want to thank Xander and Grace for coming on and you can either watch the show below or click on this link to view the show page where you can listen to it via Stitcher Radio or Itunes, you can also always get the app for Stitcher to listen to the show anytime and download the show from Itunes for your apple device.

J.A. Laraque on 1337 Lounge Live!

J.A. Laraque on 1337 Lounge Live!

The Gamer Profile Story

So here is the story. When we first created Obsolete Gamer, one of my personal goals was to talk to as many people as possible and find out what their favorite classic game was. To reach this goal and bring people to the site I created Gamer Profiles. The idea was simple. We asked people what their favorite game was and why. At first it was hard to get people to respond, but we were lucky enough to know the founders of Origin PC and they became one of our first gamer profiles, but I was just getting started.

I wanted more and I figured if you can get one profile then why not 100. We added profiles from small indie companies all the way up to people from Capcom and more, but then I said: How about celebrities. I am a big fan of the Jace Hall show and wanted to interview the man himself. We sent out e-mails, but he was very busy at the time working on his web series as well as the remake of V. For a time I thought I would never get his gamer profile, but then after several delays he promised to send one.

A man of his word, in a few weeks I had it and from there I was determined to get many more and so I created the sub category of GP All-Stars, but it did not end there with Jace. Later we got a full interview and we teamed up to help our respected sites. I participated in video game discussions and talked with his staff about my ideas. Then I got an e-mail I never expected.

I was asked to come on the show 1337 Lounge Live. I was ecstatic and within a few weeks we shot the promo you see below. Here is the story of the video, the 1337LoungeLive hosts forgot about a very important interview with video game legend, Jace Hall, and try to cover it up! Xander and Jennifer are super cool and the whole experience was incredible. Now, this is a promo and it is for my appearance as a guest on the show on April 26th from 6PM to 8PM PST. I will be hanging out and talking with fans of all video games.

So I ask you to spread the word and hang out especially if you love classic gaming. Who knows if this goes well maybe we can do more. Either way it will be a fun time so I hope to see you there. In the meantime check out the video and let us know what you think.
